Another accident spot - slippery road near Padubidri Beedu



Padubidri, September 19th, 2015:  A number of vehicles have been skidded off the slippery highway stretch near Padubidri Beedu, in addition to  the one near Kannangar bypass area.  As the one-way traffic comes to an end near Basadi and sudden traffic of vehicles coming from the opposite direction and a S-shpaed turn, creates confusion and the vehicles skid off the road while applying sudden brakes  With no proper road signs, vehicles coming from Mangalore side will have no clue about this sudden situation and slip off the road to a nearby field.

Padubidri police sub-inspector Mr. Azmath Ali has urged the highwayi controactors, M/S Navyug Constructions, to take proper action.

Around a week ago, two vehicles had slipped off the road on a single day, causing injury to the drivers.  A vegetable truck had also overturned scattering the vegetables all over the road and incurrin losses.  A driver  of a car was also injured in the smiliar incident.  A truck skidded off the road very next day and got stuck in the muddy field.

The police had erected a barricade to warn the drivers.  Howeever, last week, a vehicle at high speed applied sudden brakes on seeing the barricade and hit the barricade as the brakes failed to bring the vehicle to a complete halt.  Thereafter, the barricade was not erected.

Padubidri CA bank to build "Sahakari Bhavana"

Padubidri, September 15th, 2015:  In order to have its own building, Padubidri CA bank has purchased land worth Rs. 1.35 crores on the side of the highway and it will be building a "Sahakari Bhavana" at a cost of Rs. 3 crores.  This was announced by the bank president Y Sudhir Kumar at the annual general body meeting held at the Billava Samaja Seva Sangha Auditorium, on Monady, September 14th.

There has been a steady increase in bank's annual profit for the last 10 years and the bank has been giving 25% dividend to its shareholders for the last 4 years.  This years profit has been over 1 crores.

The deposits have crossed Rs. 57 crores and the jewel loan has been given more importance.  97% loan recovery has been achieved.  "Deposits worth Rs. 10 crores have been collected this year alone," the president said.

Last year scholarships amounting 10to Rs. 2.10 lakhs were distributed to the members' children and this year it would distributed on December 18th, during Navodaya CA Bank programme.  Mediclaim facility is given to the staff and Yashaswini health insturance protection plan is in force for the members.

Regarding fertiliser subsidy, Mr. Sudhir Kumar said that 10% subsidy is given for the purchase of fertilisers and on demand from the members plans are in hand to increase it to 15%.

Vijaya college annual bulletin "Vijaya" released


Dr. H. Shantharam, the Administrative Officer of Academy of General Education, Manipal, released annual college bulletin "Vijaya".  College principal Prof. KR Shankar, PU college principal Pameda Begum, editor Prof. Jayaram Bappanadu, college association president Shodhan Shetty and others were present.

Monthi Feast celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, Yermal



Monthi Feast (Nativity feast of Blessed Virgin Mary} was celebrated at Sacred Heart Church Yermal (Uchila) on Tuesday, September 8th.  After prayers at the grotto, people went on procession to the church and Rev. Fr. Lawrence Rodrigues offered the mass service.  Blessed paddy and sugar canes were distributed to the devotees from Yermal, Padubidri, Kaup and Paniyur wards.

Kaup press club inaugurated

Kaup, September 4th, 2015:  Udupi district minister-in-charge and Urban Development minister Shri Vinay Kumar Sorake inaugurated Kaup Press Club for media persons from kaup, Padubidri, Katapady and Shirva, on Friday, Septemeber 4th, at a function held at Vidyanikethana Grouo of Institutes in Kaup.  Addressing the gathering that included school children, Mr. Sorake said that he would work towards extending all possible government facilities to the rural press reporters after discussing with the chief miniser and the minister concerned.  He also assured to provide an initial office space in the government building and later on provide a permanent government plot for club's own building with government grant and from his development fund.


Udayavani's senior journalist Manohar Prasad was the keynote speaker and in his address he explained the hardships faced by the media persons in 80's when there were no effective means of communication and how the photographs had to be manually developed and printed before personally handing over to the head office.  He also said how negative news items are given importance rather than useful news coverage and the biased news is affecting the integrity of the press.  "People should invite media persons out of respect and not out of fear," he said.


President of Udupi Working Jounalist's Association Jayakar Suvarna and Udupi district Information Officer Rohini K. also spoke on the occasion.  Vidyanikethan Group of Institutions correspondent K.P Acharya and press club treasurer Abdul Hameed were also present on the dais.

Kaup press club president Ramachandra Acharya welcomed the guests.  Distict Association representative Hareesh kumar Hejmady delivered opening address.  Secreary Rakesh Kunjoor proposed vote of thanks.  Sports secretary Suresh Yermal proposed vote of thanks.
